Ed & Maggie's BIG 50

Well for the past week I was away in very humid Florida- I came back just before all the rains started.

I know Florida in August- yuck, so what brought persuaded us to go then?

Well we went to celebrate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. Michael and I arrived on their anniversary, and then we all (mom, dad, my sister, her two kids, Michael and myself) went out to dinner to Olive Garden for dinner.

The next morning we drove down to Fort Myers Beach and went to a dinner theater to see High School Musical. It is like a teenage version of Grease and was pretty good.

Then we all went to the Pink Shell Resort and spent a couple of days together where we had fun playing minature golf, jet skiing, kayaking, and just hanging out together.

Cousin Sam

Usually I only share my cat stories with fellow cat owners, so I won't be thought of as a crazy cat person. But here goes...I guess it started when my sister-in-law Suzie sent a picture of her two cats to our nephew Ian that made the refridgerator. When visiting and seeing no pictures of Sam on the refridgerator, I knew what had to be done.

So I made up a story called "The adventures of Sam the Cat" and would pose Sam doing various stuff- well I guess they had more of an impact than I thought because here is part of an email that Linda (Ian's mother) sent me that I thought was soooo cute.

"Your envelope could not have come on a better day. When I picked up Ian at daycare this afternoon, she said he was fine all day, but around lunchtime, he got very quiet and looked like he was going to cry. He told her he was very sad because he just missed his cousin Sam. She didn't realize Sam was a cat, but she reassured him that hopefully Sam would visit soon or Ian would visit Sam. I told Ian that we could even call and see how Sam was doing later tonight. So, when we got home and Ian checked the mail as he does every day, he was delighted to see a huge blue envelope with his name on it (he found it on his own-no help from me) and took it inside and tore the envelope to pieces trying to get into the letter. He was really excited to see photos of Sam. So now that he knows Sam is doing well, he is happy. "

More of the story

Some of you were amazed that my mother still had 3 aunts alive, she actually has 5 aunts and one uncle still living. This is mainly due to the fact that my grandmother was the 5th child in 11 children. And my mom is the oldest of her children- so her living aunts and uncle range from exactly 2 years older (they have the same birthday) to 11 years older.

The story goes that my great grandfather Leslie Lenyo was looking for a wife, and went into a New Jersey boarding house for women and saw my great grandmother Anna Jachwak coming down the stairs and new she was the one- the story also goes they went off so fast together that she did not pick up her last wages. They were married and lived to the ages of 78 and 70 respectively. Together they operated a farm in Spangler PA. (Both of my great-grandparents were born in Austria)

Here are some pictures of the generations of Lenyo's who attended a reunion 3 years ago

1st generation (spouses included)

2nd geration no spouses

3rd (my) generation - no spouses

4th generation- no spouses

5th generation- although there are some, they did not attend.

Good Genes

Last week my parents went back to Western Pennsylvania were they were both born for my Dad's family reunion. However my was mom also able to also catch up with some of her relatives and she sent me the following picture.

After looking at the picture, I kind of found it amazing that all the people sitting in the front row are all Aunts of my mother who you might recall just had her 75th birthday. (my mom is back left)

I guess it is true what they say, 70 is the new 60!
