Photo Hunt Hands

So for my photo hunt on hands, I am doing a take on ALL "HANDS" on deck with some sailing pictures. (sorry if some are repeats)

Today I wore my shirt to school promoting Earth Hour, and showed the video to my classes. I loved the fact that they were annoyed that Los Angeles was not among the list of cities participating- hopefully one of them will change that for next year!

Kermie Tip:

I was reading in Good Housekeeping Magazine today, that you should not recycle pizza boxes, since the oil from the box gets on the other papers- and then they cannot recycle those papers!

Also you should rinse out all bottles for the same reason. I do rinse my bottles, but I did not know that about the pizza box.

And one more thing you should not recycle vibrant color paper, since it is too hard to bleach back to recycled paper. And if there is a lot mixed in the people doing the recycling will just throw the whole batch of paper away, since it is not cost effective to separate. (the same thing goes if the paper gets food oils on it)

Michael is away on his final Winter Survival trip. He is snow hiking/camping this weekend it should be about 20 degrees. He spent the week making sure he would be warm enough. Here he is with as many top layers on as possible.

Kermie Tip

Use natural light. I use my laptop at the kitchen table, which is by a window. In the morning and afternoon if I open the curtains it is light enough that I do not have to turn on the kitchen lights. The key is to remember to do it.

Photo Hunt : FOUR (at FOUR-TEE)

When I saw this weeks theme, I thought how easy, I come from a family of four, unfortunately since one of us is usually taking the picture, most of my pictures are of a family of 3. I do have the four of us in my photo albums, I was just to lazy to scan this morning.

So as luck would have it Michael is from a family of 4 siblings. And when I was looking through my pictures, this one jumped out, since it was from Michael's 40th birthday party 2 years ago.

Kermie's Tip:

Since I signed up for Earth Hour, they send me tips of how you can help conserve. One idea is spreading the word and teaching different ideas to people. Since I am a teacher, I figured I have an audience everyday. One thing that I have been doing is scanning my notes and reviews on to a website so that I save on paper and the ink from copying. I even placed a quiz on the board the other day, and the kids used scratch paper to take it on.

Side note- someday I hope to get a scooter just like Kermie, since I just live 10minutes from where I work.

Things that make me smile

The other day my friend sent me a card with the following picture on the front.

The inside read, I stretch, I mediate, I chant, but I still want to hit someone! :)

I took the card to work and it is currently sitting on my desk, to me the look on the cat's face says it all, and it just makes me smile. I found the image actually on a pet sitters website in Arizona, so I wanted to make sure to give credit for the Yoga Cat. http://www.happytailspetandhousesitting.com/Contact.php

Kermie Tip

I currently have 5 heavy duty shopping bags we use for groceries, however when I first got them I would always forget to use them. So now I keep them in the trunk of my car, and after I unload the groceries I hang it on the front door handle, so when I go outside to my car I return them to my trunk.

So I became better at using them, but when I made a quick run in to the store for 2-5 items, I would never remember to bring them in, so I keep one of the bags in my front seat now, and I have no problem remembering now :)-

Photo Hunt:Space

Sometimes I take pictures that I don't share right away, and hold them in a temp file, thinking one day they will come in handy for my blog. I didn't want to overkill you with lots of float pictures from the Rose Parade so this one didn't make it on the New Year's blog Jan 1, 2008 when I took it, but always liked it. We live close to JPL (the NASA of the west coast) and have always found the place interesting. {the float was about JPL}

Not sure if anyone has noticed but I have been trying to do seasonal headers on my blog. So for March & St. Patricks day, I chose a picture of myself and my sister in an real Irish Pub, in Ireland in 1986. We have our woolen made sweaters on that we bought there. {Don't you just love the hair in the 80's- I think we are both sporting the girl version of the mullet!}

Double Kermie? I am very fortunate that I have a job that I get to wear jeans to work everyday. So I am currently wearing them double (but not back to back) before I am washing them to conserve water. As a bonus it saves on the material and will make them last longer. Unfortunately this means when I take off my jeans I don't get to ball them up and throw them in a corner, I have to neatly fold them when I take them off so that they will be presentable to wear again.
